Our
Projects
We are currently leading a transnational initiative aimed at exploring the critical role of cultural heritage in fostering peace and resilience in conflict-affected areas.
Preserving an Developing Cultural Heritage in Conflict Zones to Build Societal Resilience

We are currently working on the launch of a new transnational initiative:
“Preserving and Developing Cultural Heritage in Conflict Zones to Build Societal Resilience.” This project brings together three committed partners—The Management Centre of the Mediterranean, Has-Der, and CESEC-Europe — to explore and strengthen the role of cultural heritage in fostering peace and resilience.
Project Overview
This initiative unfolds in two interconnected phases:
1. Research Phase
A collaborative investigation into how cultural heritage has been impacted by conflict in Cyprus and Estonia. This phase will gather insights from local communities, archives, and fieldwork to understand the tangible and intangible losses — and the enduring cultural
expressions that have survived.
2. Strategic Planning Phase
Building on the findings, the project will co-design a Strategic Plan for Civil Society and Local Authorities. This plan will empower grassroots organizations, cultural actors, and municipalities to actively support the preservation and revitalization of heritage as a cornerstone of societal resilience.
Importance of local governments?
Municipalities and local authorities are often the stewards of cultural sites and the first responders in times of crisis. Their involvement ensures:
- Policy alignment between civil society efforts and local governance.
- Sustainable implementation of preservation strategies through urban planning, education, and cultural programming.
- Community trust and legitimacy, especially in post-conflict settings where civic cohesion is fragile.
